Bentonite

Many home and business owners are building ponds, fountains, waterfalls and flowing waterways to add to the comfort and beauty of their homes and businesses. But water in ponds or reservoirs can be difficult to contain. A little known product called Bentonite provides a great solution.

Bentonite is a natural swelling clay used to seal the sides and bottom of earthen water tanks and lakes, or as a core-filling material in dams or levees to prevent leakage. The use of swelling clays for water blocking dates back to ancient times. When Bentonite is added to the core walls of earth-filled dams and levees, it provides an extra measure of waterproofing. Pre-mixing Bentonite with earth, sand, or clay gives exceptional results.

National® Western Bentonite can be used for water sealing in lakes, dams, earth-fill dams, canals, storage basins, concrete reservoirs, farm ponds, drainage ditches, and irrigation ditches. Bentonite can also be used to seal cracks in retaining walls.

There are various grades of Bentonite available for commercial use. At The Hamilton Parker Company, we offer the standard in ground to a particle size of 200 mesh. The Granular grade has an average particle size of 40 mesh. For more details visit www.bentonite.com or speak with a brick department associate.

Prosoco Sure Klean® Weatherseal Siloxane PD

Brick is durable and beautiful but repeated freeze-thaw and wet-dry cycles, moisture and weather exposure can crack bricks and erode mortar joints. Efflorescence, soiling, mold, mildew and metallic staining are some of the unwanted effects of destructive water penetration.

Manufacturers nationwide recommend masonry water repellent Sure Klean® Weatherseal Siloxane PD (Prediluted) for projects built with clay brick.

It’s easy to use. Spray on with pump-up sprayer or use the simple bucket and brush method. Low-odor Siloxane PD penetrates deeply, lining the pores of the masonry with water-repellent molecules. Because it’s water-based, Siloxane PD doesn’t have the explosion and fire-hazard issues of solvent-based water-repellents. And it complies with all known national, state and local volatile organic content regulations, California to Maine. The products benefits last for up to 10 years.

Eco Brick

Eco-Brick pressed sawdust fireplace fuel is an effective alternative to oil and coal. Eco Bricks are environmentally friendly, additive free pressed kiln dried hardwood sawdust bricks used for home heating in wood burning stoves, wood burning fireplaces, outdoor fire pits, etc.

Unlike fossil fuels that extract CO2 from the ground and deposit it into the atmosphere when burned, Eco Bricks are made from sawdust and are considered CO2 neutral because the trees they are manufactured from extract more CO2 from the atmosphere than the logs emit when burned. Eco Bricks produce 52% less particulate matter to the atmosphere than cordwood.

  • Clean storage, cost effective
  • Burns longer than cordwood
  • BTUs and retail cost of a 42″x42″x48″ skid Eco Bricks = 48″x48″x96″ cord of well-seasoned fire wood
